Essex Baby Photography: Baby Asher's Newborn Session & Sibling Portraits

Beautiful Asher arrived at our Essex baby photography studio in Basildon when he was just three weeks old. With his full head of hair and perfect features, this boy is clearly so loved, and we adored being part of his first days.

The Challenge of Photographing a 3-Week-Old

While the ideal time for sleepy, posed newborn photos is usually between 5-14 days old, Asher came to us at three weeks. This presents a slightly different challenge, as babies are typically more alert and less flexible at this stage. This requires a professional photographer to adapt quickly and focus on safety, warmth, and patience.

  • Patience is Key: We dedicate extra time to soothing, feeding, and settling the baby. We follow the baby’s lead entirely, never forcing a pose.
  • The Alert Advantage: The bonus of photographing an older newborn is that we often capture beautiful awake shots—direct eye contact, cute yawns, and amazing expressions that are impossible to get when they are fully asleep.

Styling the Session: Focusing on Features and Comfort

We designed Asher’s session to be soft, comfortable, and timeless.

  • Highlighting Hair: His wonderful, full head of hair was a standout feature! We chose simple, textured wraps in neutral tones (creams and soft greys) to frame his face without distracting from his features.
  • Safety & Simplicity: All of his posing was done on a large beanbag and in secure, simple props that kept him warm and safe. We prioritized capturing his tiny little details—his curled hands and delicate profile—which are the memories parents cherish most.
  • Family Connection: Crucially, we made sure to capture portraits of Asher being held by his mum and dad. These images beautifully highlight how tiny he is right now and showcase the immense love that surrounds him.
