Hadleigh Castle Glamour Photoshoot: Creative Styling in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex
This stunning outdoor glamour photo session took place at the beautiful, historic grounds of Hadleigh Castle in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. This location offers the perfect blend of dramatic medieval ruins and windswept nature, providing an unparalleled backdrop for creative portraiture. We spent a good hour and a half capturing my beautiful client in different poses and locations around the ruins, playing with the ambient light and enjoying so many laughs and chats.
The Vision: Capturing Warm, Dramatic Outdoor Portraits
My vision for this session was to capture warm, soft, yet dramatically styled glamour portraits. The contrast between my client's elegant styling and the rugged, natural beauty of Hadleigh Castle created a unique, compelling look. Even though it was a very chilly autumn day, my client absolutely rocked her shoot! She was a true professional, allowing us to capture the exact vision I had held for this location for a while.
- Golden Hour Magic: We specifically timed the session for the golden hour, utilising that beautiful, low-angle light. This soft, warm illumination is key to creating that cinematic, 'glamour' feel and making the grey stone of the castle glow.
- Composition and Environment: We drew inspiration from the nature that surrounded us, using the crumbling stone walls and sweeping views of the estuary to add texture and depth to her portraits. The wind, which might seem like a challenge, actually added drama and movement to the fabric, enhancing the overall effect.
Handmade Styling: Creating the Tulle Skirt Drama
A major element of this glamour photography session was the bespoke styling. I created the entire outfit from scratch, aiming for a look that felt artful and unique.
- The Tulle Skirt: The greyish-blue tulle skirt was custom-made using endless rolls of fabric. This dramatic volume was essential to the vision, creating movement and a sense of luxury in the portraits.
- The One-Shoulder Top: The simple, one-shoulder top was crafted from a single meter of fabric—a treasure I found during one of my "shopping for photoshoots" sprees where I search for materials to spark inspiration. The neutral tone and minimalist design ensured the focus remained on the dynamic skirt and my client's expression, not overwhelming the frame with unnecessary detail.
My goal as an Essex photographer is to create portraits that are more than just photographs—they are custom pieces of art that celebrate the subject and the beautiful location.
