From Maternity to Newborn: Celebrating Baby Ruby's Arrival


When Ruby’s parents first fell pregnant, they made the beautiful choice not to discover the gender until she arrived. Her mama and I share a friendship, and I had a constant feeling she was going to be a girl—and sure enough, she was! I was instantly eager to meet her and even more excited to capture her newborn photos in my Basildon studio. The transition from documenting the bump to holding the baby is one of the most rewarding parts of being a professional newborn photographer in Essex. It allows me to create a continuous visual story of your family's journey.

Styling and Setup: Capturing Timeless Newborn Portraits


For Baby Ruby's session, her parents and I decided on a soft, timeless colour palette that complemented her delicate features and created a classic, elegant feel. We incorporated gentle creams, subtle pinks, and beautiful, textured wraps to keep the focus entirely on Ruby.

The session lasted approximately two to three hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding, changing, and soothing. This relaxed pace is fundamental to all my newborn photo sessions in Essex, ensuring both Ruby and her parents remained calm and comfortable throughout. I used my specialized lighting and temperature controls within the studio to create the perfect environment for sleepy, posed shots that truly captured her tiny details.

The Art of Newborn Posing and Safety


Capturing those sweet, curled-up poses requires immense skill and attention to infant safety. Every pose, from the 'taco pose' to her sleeping soundly in a basket prop, was executed with an adult spotter nearby, often using composite photography techniques to ensure she was always supported.

We captured a wide variety of shots, including:

  • Detail Shots: Close-ups of her tiny hands grasping her parents’ fingers, and the delicate curls of her toes.
  • Prop Poses: Ruby snuggled in a beautiful, natural wood bowl, wrapped in a soft, white knit layer.
  • Family Portraits: Tender moments with her parents, highlighting the immense love and connection in the room.
